3. How and why we use your data

What we doOur legal basis
Take, make and deliver your order, and email you about itPerforming our contract with you
Handle cancellations, returns, refunds and complaintsPerforming our contract with you, and meeting our legal obligations to consumers
Keep accounting and tax recordsLegal obligation
Prevent fraud and keep the website secureOur legitimate interests in protecting our business and customers

We do not use your data for automated decision-making, and we do not sell it. We do not currently send marketing emails. If we ever do, we will ask for your consent first and you will be able to opt out at any time.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

We do not use advertising or analytics cookies, and we do not track you across other websites.

Your shopping cart is saved in your own browser (using local storage) so it is still there when you come back. Once you place an order, a short summary is kept in your browser for the confirmation page and is removed when you close it. This information stays on your device. It is strictly necessary for the shop to work, so it does not need consent.

Our website loads fonts from Google Fonts. When a page loads, your browser connects to Google's servers to fetch them, which means Google receives your IP address.

5. Who we share your data with

We only share what is needed, with:

  • Our payment provider, BOI Payment Acceptance (Global Payments Europe, s.r.o., Irish Branch), which processes card payments. When you pay, the payment details you enter go to them, not to us.
  • Couriers and postal services, who receive your name and delivery address so they can deliver your order.
  • Our website host and email provider, who store and process data on our behalf. Our website is hosted in the EU (Frankfurt).
  • Our accountant or advisers, where needed for our accounts, and public authorities where the law requires it.

If any of these providers process your data outside the European Economic Area, we make sure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

6. How long we keep your data

We keep order records, including your name and address, for at least six years, because Irish tax and accounting law requires it. Cancellation requests and complaint emails are kept for as long as needed to deal with them, and afterwards for the same period in case of any later dispute. After that we delete or anonymise the data.

7. Your rights

Under data protection law (the GDPR) you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • ask us to correct data that is wrong or incomplete
  • ask us to delete your data, where we no longer need it
  • ask us to restrict how we use your data
  • object to our use of your data where we rely on our legitimate interests
  • receive the data you gave us in a portable format

To use any of these rights, email hello@westcorkcraftkits.ie. We will reply within one month. Some data, such as order records we must keep for tax purposes, cannot be deleted until the legal retention period ends.

8. Complaints to the regulator

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please contact us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Data Protection Commission in Ireland: www.dataprotection.ie.

9. Changes to this policy

If we change how we use your data, we will update this page and the date at the top.
